In today’s consumer driven economy, powerful corporations have a large effect on the architectural landscape. As big box stores move into a community, not only do they visually redefine the architecture of that town, they also have negative effects on the Main Street economy. This effect ofen causes the local stores of these towns to lose business, creating holes in the community fabric once they have left. By taking the lessons learned through the examination of large discount retailers, Main Street America can become reorganized both physically and psychologically to promote community interactions within the space.
