The Church of St. Grigor Lusavoritch is attributed to the 7th century. The precise date of its founding is still unknown, however its is considered to have been no later than the 7th century. The probable date of construction for the Church of St. Grigor Lusaworitch is the 7th century and for the ruined basilican Church of St. Harutiun located in a nearly cemetery, it is the 5th century. Two inscriptions on the Church of St. Astvatsatsin state that it was erected in 1201 AD by the Amirspasala Prince Zakare Zakarean. The complex was one of the most famous monastic centers in Armenia and it was especially renowned for its school and scriptorium. Archaeological excavations begun in 1966 indicate that the nearby village of Harich was in existence during the 2nd century BC and was one of the more well known fortress towns in Armenia.
