Public Parking: bridging suburban space M. Arch thesis studio project Schneider, Lauren Skateboarding parks Parking lots Public spaces Parks (recreation areas) Suburbs Pools There is a great lack of true public space in suburban areas as most inhabitants flock to the area for their own piece of private land. Add the overbearing presence of privatized strip malls and big box corporations and there is little, if any, remaining public space. Due to the privatization of these locations, and the ephemeral qualities of public gathering, these instances do not offer valuable spaces for social interactions to flourish. My final project will explore how shared community program can bridge the gap between private and public suburban spaces and how parking lots can be adapted for this purpose School of Architecture.
