The concourse of an airport terminal is full of people from different places in the world. Very little of the people sitting in the space are from that specific area. This is a very unique situation that may not happen in any other space on earth. The people within the concourse change constantly. Some people are only in the space for a few minutes while they run from one gate to the next, while other spend hour’s upon hours staring at the nothingness before them. It is these people that contain the most potential for this project. How can these people that are stuck for hours in a place with other people from around the world share a similar memorable experience because of an architectural intention, programmatic relationship or cultural event? This is the question that is posed by this thesis project. It studies the non-place of the airport, the concourse. This is the space where people are forced to wait between flights and find a way to pass the time. It is a zone very different than any other in the world because almost everyone in the space is from another city or area of the world. I would like to take advantage of this and create a memorable experience prescribed by specific architectural associations and programmatic connections.

School of Architecture 5th year final project publication

A place needs to be a system of possibilities, prescriptions and congestions of both spatial and social content. Identity and relations are the heart at which all spatial arrangements are studied. Therefore it is important for the spatial arrangements to be intentional in order to create a place of identity significant to the location within the space.I am very interested in studying the airport terminal for this very issue.
