In order to move past the simple, symbolic, representations of Islamic Art and Architecture, the studio focused on the metaphysical, organizational and spatial characteristics that define its sensibility. A trip to NYC to visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art helped the students in their proposals of an addition of similar scale on the opposite Southern side of the Museum. The program will contain exhibition, restoration, administration, archive and peripheral programs to support the Met's permanent collection of Islamic Art and Architecture. The proposal also required thoughtful landscape integration with the surrounding Central Park School of Architecture.
