In 1943 he graduated from the University of Michigan where he studied architecture and design. Nickle worked and taught primarily in Chicago, Illinois where he was affiliated with the New Bauhaus under László Moholy-Nagy, then with the University of Illinois at Chicago. This color photograph was taken from the top of the staircase inside the Rookery Building. This area is most often blocked off from visitors. The Rookery Building is an historic landmark located in the Loop. It was completed by John Wellborn Root and Daniel Burnham in 1888.
